Wow, does this resonate with me! We stopped going back for Xmases a couple years, and I'm soooo glad we made that change. It was tough at first--lots of grumbling and guilt trips--but everyone adjusted and now it seems okay, 'cause we go back at other times on OUR terms. Good luck with this, Rowan.

You should do whatever you want to do and consider the family. Like they want to see YOU right? Choose another time that suits you. Theres always the phone...If its really that important that they be with you, you can call them and everyone can pass around the phone...that way youre there but not there and can visit them in person when things arent crazy. Im rather hermit-y . I invite people over from 4 to 8 and mean it. Partys over! Its 8 PM. Go home so I can clean up and get in bed at a decent hour. Love ya! : )

Yes, it's OK to stay home. That's what we do now. It caused a lot of trouble at first, but they've calmed down and are now just happy to see us when we come in the Spring. It's so much less stressful, and I don't feel pressured to participate in holidays I don't believe in. Good Luck!

Its so different for me because I have children..small ones. But even tho I dont believe in the christian belief of christmas, it is still my favorite holiday to celebrate. Does this make me personally a hypocrite? Who knows. But the joy for my children overrides everything I feel inside. In your situation, you do what you feel you need to do. You know what's right for you. I like the idea of calling and passing the phone around! Do whats good for you girl *hug*
